Day 10: Thursday 21st July 2016

Today was perhaps the most moving and reflective day of the trip so far. After discussing the Shoah in our session last night, we were all well-informed as to what to expect. We arrived at Yad Va'shem to be greeted by our tour guide who took as around this fitting tribute to those who lost their lives. He explained how the war started, the experience of many Jews in different places and shared some incredible experiences of survival with us. Our tour concluded with an emotional visit to the children's memorial after which we had the opportunity to discuss our thoughts with the group.

Next we had a break for lunch after which we set off for the Old City. This was our first time as a group in this spiritual and unique area and the incredible atmosphere was immediately felt. We had a tour of David's City, seeing the remains of his palace and then going on a walk though Heskiahu's caves. We passed the time, during which the water level was at our waist's, by singing! We then headed underground again to see the Kotel from a different view which has recently been exposed. To conclude a day of mixed emotions, from remembering one of the darkest times in Jewish history to bring uplifted by the spirit of where the Holy Temple once stood, many people then enjoyed seeing family members who had come to visit them whilst we are in Israel.
