We woke up this morning energised and ready for the next few
weeks ahead. We got to know each other better with some fun orientation games and team
building activities in the Carmel. These activities, whilst being fun, required us to trust
each other fully to complete the tasks.
We then went to Bahai Gardens wher we saw beautiful views of Haifa.
After lunch, we headed to the Alilt camp where we learnt about the
camps that were set up by the British for the Jewish refugees from controlled Europe. We found it both interesting
and a little shocking to hear about how hard it was for the Jewish Holocaust survivors in
mandate Palestine at that time.
Next, we headed to the Carmel Forest to go horseback
riding! Helmets on, we all tried very hard to pretend we weren’t scared,
but despite our fear, we were excited and up for the experience. We set off to
see the surrounding sites and views atop our horses and once we relaxed we were
able to really enjoy it.
We then went back to our hotel where we freshened up before
dinner.
We had an activity based on Chesed – Kindness where in small groups we had to think up an idea for a chessed organisation and pitch it to the groups. This was followed by by our daily sikkum (summary) where
we got to talk about our day and round up before heading to bed.
"The Atlit camp was very emotional to see the struggle that the refugees went through" Lauren Seres
"The view from on top of the horse during horseriding was really beautiful" Sam Jayes
